One of the main goals of Belzano’s is to bring true Italian style pizza to New Jersey. People have many different opinions on what differentiates an ok pizza from an unforgettable one. Belzano’s aims be the latter, unforgettable. We had a sampling of different pizza creations by award winning pizza maker Bruno. From the first bite, I knew that Belzano’s would be a sought out after pizza destination. Perfectly crispy crusts, chewy but not overdosed cheese, and proportioned unique ingredients all made the pizza tasting great. Out the 12 or so I tasted my favorites were the namesake “Belzano” with Cerginola olives, spicy salami, sun dried tomatoes, and burrata and also the “Jersey Pie” which used grande mozzarella, spicy tomato, fresh sausage, and Sicilian oregano. We all left with plenty of leftovers and I literally ate pizza for the next 2 days.
Before the customers can enjoy the classic Italian recipes that Belzanos will be serving, we have to create and perfect them. We had a tasting of Executive Chef Peter Fishbachs take on regional favorites with a modern american twist. Some of the standouts included Bruschetta with Shrimp, Chicken Nepolean and Mussels ala Fennel and Sambuca. About ten dishes in total were sampled, needless to say the tasters left full and happy as ancient Romans.
